So, my WordPress Blogging University assignment for Branding and Growth for Day 2 asks me to audit my brand. I have never really thought of myself as having or being any type of brand. I would say my brand is a middle-aged guy without enough hair, but I don’t think that is what they are looking for. This brand thing will take some thought.
Assignment exactly is:
Today’s task: audit your brand — look at all the ways your blog communicates to visitors to make sure it’s consistent and focused — and make one update to reinforce your brand.
Having just replaced my theme this morning, I would say my brand is pretty simplistic. Not a lot of bells and whistles. I think my brand shows that I love nature, music, and photography and that I struggle to make sense of day to day life as I get older. I try to expand my topics from time to time, but, overall, I am a pretty simple guy that senses his time to do something truly special with his life is starting to run out.
I have always wanted people to think of my blog as honest and heartfelt writing. I have never had trouble talking freely about how I feel about things or how I am feeling in general. I think it is therapeutic to be able to talk about feelings.
Back to the blog, my widget titles are all pretty basic. On my posts, I always try to come up with some type of clever headline if I can. I also enjoy trying to find a unique photo to go with my writing … something that may give the reader a sneak peak at what I am discussing below the photo.
I have been blogging now for about two years. I am nearing 100 followers, which is great for me, but nothing like so many other people I see on WordPress. I still have a lot to learn as far as search engines, tags, etc. I would love to double that number by the end of the year. It is always nice to think when you spend the time to write, those thoughts are actually bouncing off others as they soak in what you are feeling.
